Hammond: I reject idea millions live in dire poverty

The chancellor has rejected claims there are millions of people living in dire poverty in Britain. “Look around you; that’s not what we see in this country,” Philip Hammond told Newsnight. Mr Hammond accepted that some people were struggling.

Some people?

Not what he sees?

I don’t know what tiny region of the country he experiences but I imagine most people here would think he was a bit out of touch.

We have a well documented explosion of inequality, the ultra-rich driving politics for their own ends, pushing everyone else down and our chancellor of the exchequer thinks we merely need to tinker with capitalism.

At least he has the honesty to point out how harmful a no-deal Brexit would be … shame no-one is listening.
